Deck the Walls this Xmas 2019 mtg pauper

There are many ways to get mana ramp with green. Using wall/defender ramping is one I haven't come across before I stumbled across it. It works a lot like the (Priest of Titiania) + (Elvish Archdruid) combo, but with better defense. Its weakness, blocking, is its strength. However, an elf deck has a problem to, and that is toughness. Yet, Elvish Archdruid is also a rare, so it can't be played in the situation with this deck.

Deck The Walls ~ 2018 ~ Pauper

Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian, along with the 15 other defenders, reel in the mana to cast the fat creatures.   Carnivorous Plant and Grave Bramble add some prevention with their power.  As far as mana ramping goes, respectfully, I think the Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian combo is far better than the similar Priest of Titania and Elvish Archdruid combo goes, because the defenders usually offer a better trade off.  They are both harder to kill, and better at defense, such that one can have some time to bring out the beat sticks better than Elves do.

The defenders, or "Walls," is how this deck got its name.  It is a spoof off of the Christmas song, "Deck the Halls."

Strategy:

Mana ramp creatures with defender, such as Overgrown Battlement, and Axebane Guardian to cast power 5 creatures with trample, such as Scuzzback Marauders, Molder Beast, and Tajuru Pathwarden.  Then, pump with Assault Strobe, Double Cleave, Phytoburst.

I can’t guarantee that you will win many games with this deck.  However, it is fun and inexpensive, and it will probably keep you in the game longer than most decks.

The main objective of this deck is to defend oneself, buying time until a late game kill.  This means hiding oneself from immediate attack, and it is accomplish by the commander, Yeva, Nature’s Herald.  

One reason that this deck is so casual is that deathtouch only sends creatures to the graveyard, which can be beneficial to the opponent in the case of more competitive decks.

Defenders and creatures with regenerate also provide defense.  Mana abilities may also create a means to deploy the defense.  Also, with respect to the walls, cards like Primal Bellow, Giant Growth, and Vines of Vastwood may make it seem like they have deathtouch.

There is also 3 kinds of ramping in this deck, including elves, defenders, and spells.  Elf mana ramping works well with commander, Yeva, especially because she is an elf.

Thoughts to go with this deck include Ground Seal, Axebane Guardian, artifacts that give flying, and Vine Trellis.
